What is a Naturopath? A Naturopath
is a health practitioner that uses a holistic and comprehensive
approach to health. A holistic approach entails considering and
assessing the whole situation of the individual patient, and not
just the presenting symptoms. Naturopathy is a system of medicine
that also emphasises supporting, and not suppressing the body’s
physical attempts, and innate ability to eliminate disease. The
aim of naturopathic treatment is to regain homoeostasis, which is
lost in illness or disease.
Homoeostasis is the self-regulating or balancing mechanism of the
body, which maintains wellness and it is the goal of the naturopath
to identify the best ways to support the body in this task. Disease
is viewed as a state of imbalance within the body. It may be an
imbalance at various levels; nutritional, metabolic (hormonal),
physiological, emotional or mental level, or a combination of any
of these. Signs and symptoms of such imbalances within the body
may manifest in many forms. It is these symptoms that give clues
and information about the underlying problem(s).
Investigative tests are often recommended to gain further insight
to issues and aid treatment protocols. Holistic treatment is employed
to regain this balance and therefore create a better state of health
for now, and the future.
What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy adopts a holistic approach to health and healing by
treating both the underlying causes of illness and the presenting
symptoms. The aim of treatment is to regain homoeostasis, which
is lost in illness.
Homoeostasis is the self-regulating or balancing mechanism of the
body, which maintains wellness and it is the goal of the practitioner
to identify the best ways to support your body in this task.
Naturopathy encourages the healing power of nature by restoring
bodily function and increasing vitality to enable the body to heal
itself.

|
| Postnatal
period - Naturopathic support during this time can often be
for both mother and baby. It’s another time of transition.
For the woman it’s the change from pregnancy to the roles
of motherhood and breastfeeding, and for baby; from the womb to
the outside world. It’s a period marked by many physical,
emotional and lifestyle changes and using natural and complementary
medicines to support these provides both an effective and safe option
for mothers and babies. An appointment is usually scheduled for
the first few weeks after the baby is born, if this is appropriate.

discussed and a realistic and manageable approach is implemented.
